I took a little trip down to Union Station today to meet an old friend who was passing through Chicago on his way west. Along the way, i got this lovely shot of the Tug Ellie. 

5 December 2012, Day 183

In honor of this blog's 6-month birthday, here is a classic Chicago shot of the Sears ("Don't call me Willis") Tower. Not being especially known for my sense of self-discipline, i'm kind of amazed that i've managed to take and post at least one picture every day for 183 days. There have been days when i just didn't feel motivated to go out and look for something to photograph, and others when nothing looked all that interesting or photogenic. Yet somehow, at the end of each day, there's been a picture. So, at least for now, i'm going to try to keep this thing going. Here's to the next 6 months!

Sheridan Road on a Sunday morning.

At 7:30 on a Sunday morning, Sheridan Road is at its most deserted. Quiet, peaceful, and strangely warm for early December, conditions were perfect for noticing the little details that i rush past at most other times. 

1 December 2012, Day 179

Filled with the best intentions, i headed to my favorite grocery store, Morse Fresh Market, to buy some fruit this morning. As usual, i ended up buying a whole lot of other stuff while i was there, but up until the last corner of the last aisle, my dietary virtue was intact. I had granola, yogurt, and humus in my cart, along with clementines, blackberries, bananas, and a pomegranate. For once, i had even managed to ignore the enticing aroma of fresh carnitas and was feeling mighty proud of myself. Then i saw a handwritten sign advertising Ben & Jerry's for $2.99 a pint. You probably know how this story ends, but in case you don't, here's a hint: i don't think i'll be losing any weight this week.

30 November 2012, Day 178 (Plus 1)

Mea culpa! This picture was dutifully taken on 30 November, but it was a very long day and i neglected to post it. As a testament to how seriously i take my blogging duties, i realized what i'd done (or, rather, not done) the minute i woke up this morning. I sincerely hope that my little lapse has not caused you undue trauma.

These trees are on the campus of Northwestern University. For some inexplicable reason they appear to be white in this picture when in reality they are a lovely blue.
