23 August 2014: It's Good to Be Back!

It's been an eventful month, dear reader, including a move that should have been easy but wasn't, a few weeks with only limited internet access, and a very long train ride to a very nice place. But i'm back at last with a few pictures of what was happening on this late-August Saturday in Rogers Park.

The morning was foggy, the lake and the seagulls barely visible. On mornings like this, the beach seems strange and otherworldly.

Even the Saturday morning fitness class in the park looked almost like an impressionist painting, the coach's voice counting off reps seemed gentle, distant.

After a stormy afternoon, the weather cleared and this exuberant group put on an impromptu staging of "Singin' in the Rain" while waiting outside the Mayne Stage for the Queerpocalypse show to begin.

2 February 2014: Lake-cicle

Lake Michigan was looking especially dramatic today, with huge ice formations and lethally sharp-looking shards catching the glint of the low afternoon sun. These pictures were taken at the recently renamed Tobey Prinz Beach at the eastern end of Pratt Boulevard.

30 November 2013: Beach Weather

After a week of brutal cold, today felt absolutely balmy, a perfect day for a walk on the beach.

But be careful: i've heard their are zombies on the loose.

30 October 2012, Day 147, Pt. 1

Sandy is one big, powerful storm, flexing her muscles 700 miles inland, and making the third coast feel more like a real coast with angry, churning waves crashing against the pier.

But even among the howling winds and crashing surf, there are moments of grace to be found as an elderly woman throws crumbs to the seagulls.
